Double Wall Bowl Basket

The Central Pennsylvania Basket Weavers Guild assembled in February to weave a double wall bowl basket.  Member Debra Zvanut led the class.

Starting with a double slotted base, the inner basket was shaped as it was woven.  It acted as mold for the outer basket.  I used dyed purple reed to contrast the natural cream reed of the outside.

A decorative band of  French Randed Arrows was woven using of four colors.

The top edge of the basket is woven together using a 3 piece double lash technique.

Mini Waxed Linen Bowl with Beads

I used the "Enchanted" kit assembled by Linda Ascherz Allen of Adirondack Basketry to weave this mini bowl.  The vessel is woven with plum and lavender waxed linen with both clear and lavender beads added to some of the rows.   It was the first time I  have added beads to a waxed linen vessel.  I like the texture it gives the bowl. The finished product is 2" high with a 2 3/4" diameter.

Raffia Sampler

All it took was a snow day to find time to finish this decorated gourd which I began during the Basketweavers Guild of Bedford County fall workshop lead by Vicki Hartman.  Natural pine needles were coiled around a prepared gourd using raffia to join the coils to the gourd and each row. The pine needle rim features a variety of coiling stitches, including the closed coiling on the initial row.

Victorian Wicker Heart Basekt

Cold temperatures didn't keep the Central Pennsylvania Basket Weavers Guild from enjoying the first weaving gathering of 2017.

Using a pattern by Laura Lee Zanger each member wove a heart basket using reed colors of their choice .

Round reed is laid out in an interlocking pattern to form the base. The heart shape is set with a twining locking row before turning up the spokes to twine the side. The heart is finished with a braided border.  The finished dimensions are 9" wide x 8" long x 2" high.
